Title:  Research and Development Officer (Sensory)

The Research & Development Officer (Sensory) will be working with cross-functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Market Research, Quality Control, Packaging) on a range of projects including new product development, optimization, productivity, category mapping, shelf-life studies, quality assurance, and packaging studies. He/she will provide sensory/consumer sensory expertise by designing, implementing, analyzing, and making actionable recommendations to the relevant teams.

 

1. Panel Management

  • Manages the recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and maintenance of descriptive panelists.

  • Ensures constant panel availability during sensory testing.

  • Maintains or continuously improves panelists' interest and participation.

 

2. Insight Generation

  • Designs and executes descriptive and affective studies using appropriate research techniques and tools to achieve high-quality output.

  • Supports market research studies by:

    • Making sound recommendations on products to test.

    • Preparing evaluation protocols and sample preparation procedures to ensure data quality.

  • Conducts sensory qualitative research and facilitates consumer panel discussions to generate in-depth understanding of consumer preferences and motivation.

  • Analyzes data, interprets findings, and prepares reports with actionable recommendations to guide:

    • Product development

    • Optimization

    • Quality control

    • Shelf-life

    • Packaging studies

 

3. Others

  • Performs other job- or expertise-related assignments to develop one’s self and/or share one’s expertise, resulting in support for operational efficiency.


 

Job Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of Food Science/Technology, Nutrition, Chemistry, or Microbiology.

  • Professional Food Technologist (PFT) license is an advantage.

  • At least 3 years of experience in:

    • Food sensory testing

    • Leading a descriptive panel and conducting performance checks

    • Collecting and analyzing consumer feedback

    • Conducting competitor/market research

  • Practical experience with data collection systems (e.g., Compusense, FIZZ, Red Jade) and statistical analysis software (e.g., XLSTAT, SPSS, SIMCA, R Language) is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in discrimination, descriptive, and consumer product test methods.

  • Willing to be assigned in Ortigas, Pasig City (hybrid set-up).
