Title: Research & Development Officer
The R&D Officer for Product Development Section is responsible in the development of new products, process innovations, strategic projects, and research and development activities that are consistent with the business objectives, to include such activities but not limited to new product launches, cost optimization initiatives, continuous quality improvement of products, and commercialization of new and re-engineered products and processes with the goal of ensuring taste superiority and high acceptability of products
- The R&D Officer - PDS assists the R&D Manager - PDS for the formulation of strategies and directions, both on short-term and long-term plans, of the Product Development Section.
- Handles the new product development and re-engineering of core products as maybe assigned by the R&D Manager or R&D Director.
- Handles the commercialization of new product recipes and formulation focusing on calendared new products, new food ideas, and new variants and extensions.
- Generates new product concepts through culinary research and forum, food exhibition, shows, food service benchmarking and networking with chefs, culinary experts, and other related association.
KEY RESULTS AREA
- Assists in the management of the Product Development Section
- Assists in the formulation of directions and strategies of the PD Section
- Develops new products, line extensions and product variants in accordance with the marketing calendar or as directed by management
- Conducts translation of product concepts into product profiles
- Handles commercial manufacture of new and reengineered products.
- Product and Process standardizations in commissary and outside suppliers
- Product Technology Transfer to 3rd party (toll) manufacturers and suppliers
- Documents the Product and Raw Materials Standards and Alternatives
- Establishes the Store Products Standards and Store Process Development and updating Maintains the accuracy of all Menu lists
- Complete Documentation of all New Product Formulations, Manufacturing Processes, RM Specifications and other manufacturing documents; to include updating.
- Handles special projects on Product and Process Innovation
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Development
- Develops new products, variants or product extensions based on marketing calendar.
- Develops new concepts intended for product library or product pool.
Product Commercialization
- Manages and handles commercial manufacture of new products and reengineered products.
- Supervises formulation and process adjustments of new and reengineered products during commercialization.
Standardization and Efficiency of Manufacturing Processes
- Handles the standardization of formulations and processes of regular/permanent products manufactured in Commissary, to include products toll processed by outside suppliers.
- Evaluates and recommends manufacturing equipment for processing new and reengineered products.
- Establishes food testing procedures and equipment relevant to setting up of product standards.
Product Technology Transfer/Duplication
- Handles transfer and/or duplication of product technology to toll processors, for local and international markets.
- Reviews food manufacturing equipment and process technology used in major food products for upgrading and updating.
Product and Raw Materials Standards and Alternatives
- Handles development of standards and specifications of raw materials for food processing/manufacture and product duplication
- Handles development of specifications of packaging materials used in manufacturing and stores.
- Crafts food testing procedures and equipment relevant to setting up of product standards.
- Develops and accredits major suppliers of raw materials, traded items, and toll processors for new products.
Store Products and Standards and Store Process Development
- Develops store procedures and gold quality standards for new and reengineered products.
- Develops the menu listings (food and paper costs) of all products sold in the stores to measure food cost and profit.
Complete Documentation of all New Product Formulations, Manufacturing Processes and Raw Materials
- Handles technical documentation of in-house formulations, and process and raw material specification.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in food technology or food science related course
Experience: At least 3 years relevant experience in R&D of reputable food manufacturing company, can work alone without the direct supervision of Category head
Training/License/ Certification: Advanced training in HACCP and Food Safety, Certified Internal Quality Auditor by SGS or any similar agency
